Thank you Michael, Ruby and Cristina. I'm glad you mentioned the number of boats Michael. It's a popular spot and there were more boats there but I left quite a few out to help capture the serenity of the scene.

This painting nearly didn't survive. It was meant to be  very quick study but that sky took an incredible amount of time and the painting was on the verge, several times, of being thrown in the bin.

By contrast, I'm just about to post another sunset painting which I did in its entirety yesterday afternoon. Get ready, here it comes ...

Great use of low key ..close values to depict the mood of early evening.  The sun being centered enhances the effect of your mood ..the equal balance avoids any tension that would destroy the mood.  The wharf and its rhythm of line is the element that nails everything down! ...just the right amount of boats to not make everything busy ..great work!!
