beautiful painting and great tips!! what a great site this is!
Thank you Mary Jo : ))
Yes, there are canvas pads too, but they are more expensive than rolls. I get the rolls from ASW or Jerry's whenever they have a canvas sale. A couple of rolls seems to last me forever and then I usually can get free shipping, too. The rolls are about 54 inches by 6 yards -- that's a lot of canvas. I tape them to a large drawing board/hard board, usually a couple of 8x10s per side, which makes it easy to carry them outside or wherever... I prop the board on the car floor between the front and back seats so they don't get wet paint all over. Very easy.

Never heard of canvas pads, ony canvas paper! I will look them up. They certainly do not have them at my local store. Thanks bunches! : ))
Dor, a quicker way to start painting on loose canvas is to buy canvas pads in your preferred size from Fredericks, Art Alternatives, etc. You can find them in your local art store in 9 by 12, 12 by 16, 11 by 14, etc. I do the same thing as Mary Jo, but I use acrylic gel to glue them onto the plywood or hardwood board. To paint on them, I double stick tape them to cardboard or hardboard or leave them in the pad. If you decide to paint outdoors (after your bone-chilling experience in Las Vegas) it is easy to take along a pad and a single panel with double stick tape and put on a new canvas while the other is drying. This way you don't have to buy a whole roll of canvas. You can order oil or universal (acrylic) primed linen or cotton canvas in different weights through online art suppliers like Jerry's Arterama or Cheap Joes. I hope this helps. Stu
Hi Mary Jo
What a great idea. I am sure this is a much better way then me painting on canvas paper....Yuck!!
Tell me more please, what weight canvas etc..........remember I know nothing.....: ))
Thank you, all three, for your compliments. Stu, I'll see if I can get a better photo after I fix the trees. Thanks for pointing that out.
I do practice studies on a piece of canvas that I have cut from a six yard roll. If I decide I want to frame it (versus repainting it on stretched canvas), I glue it with Miracle Muck to a piece of hardboard or MDF. This way I can spend $50 to $60 on a roll of canvas and don't feel bad if paintings don't work out the first time... or the fifth.
And I just realized that I need to fix my palm trees. Ack!
Lovely painting Mary Jo! Keep up the good work. How did you paint this on unstretched canvas? Smiles coming your way : ))
