Stuart thank you so much for the advice. As much as it is nice to get praise for ones work... personally I am here on this site for some harsh critique. Yes you are right... I can see that value is key and also colour harmony. These are two factors I really want to pay attention to while I am here.

Thanks Jess... I need to be harsh :o( If I am going to grow as an artist.

For your 3rd landscape ever, this is very good. Nice brushstrokes, good color harmony. After looking at your other work, my opinion is that you will pick up landscape painting pretty quickly. It's all about composition, value structure and interesting (abstract) shapes. Color is not as important as value, but color harmony is critical. Paint small at first and work out your compositions with value studies. Buy Richard's workshops from these competitions if you don't already have them and you'll catch up real fast. Stu

I think this is really beautiful!  I agree with Linda you are being way too hard on yourself! Nice job.

Thanks Linda. I had some paint left over from anothe painting I was working on and decided to quickly give this a shot with only 2 blues and 1 yellow left on my pallet and of course the white. I am not great at mixing colours to this was an ideal opportunity for me to go mad. I have since worked on it some more and it is getting better. I am hear to learn... and that I am doing. Loving this site.

I think this is a very nice painting.   You are too hard on yourself.  Great choice of colors and loose strokes.

I forgot to add... this is WAIPU COVE...what a beautiful place this must be.
