Oil on canvas, size 30x20cm.
I am afraid that I could not follow Richard with the street in Italy! I have been battling with this subject too many days so decided to send it, even though I know it is faulty, the women in front are too far down for instance and so on... I might go to it again later. Anyway I would love some criticism.

Hi Walda and Dan, thank you very much for your kind comments.

Lori, I know what you are saying but I just lost it this time, I know the darkness outside is really affecting me but truly I just gave up this time.:(

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!!

I like the vivid colours and the glow on the distant building works well :)

Hi Steinunn! You're almost there! Maybe try more shadows to your buildings and vary the yellow on your back building a bit.lower chroma toward the bottom? Great work on the figures in shadow to the left!!

Thank you for your critiques on my painting, I really appreciate it.  My original sketch was completely different but I went off course somewhat.  I will take more care next time.  Thanks again and happy painting.

Thank you, Steinunn, for you kind welcome concerning my new membership.

As to your request for critiques, a better word than  criticism, you already nailed it! Yes, there is not enough length in the canvas and the shadows seem long for the couple (late in the day shadows) vs.early, but you have great color and scale. A "happy" painting!

I have found over the years sketches on layout (tracing) paper drawn to scale and placed over the canvas (board or paper) etc help me get it right the first time without such angst. The final selected sketch can be transferred using carbon paper or using a red drawing pencil, free hand. It will not show through the paint.

.As I have been a portrait artist for most of my career, landscapes are a great escape compared to portraits. My favorite form of art is caricatures that I have drawn in pastel for many years for conventions and anniversaries .I have painted Richards two sunset series, and I found them difficult and I now I want to try the street scene. I enjoyed checking other artists work looking for helpful clues!

I hope my comments help you. Finding your inner art self is a feat in Knowledge. That Knowledge is powerful!

Hi Silvana, you are right there, there are steps but I did not show them too well, I might look at that again, thank you girls!
