Brushes used for this size painting #4, #6 & #8 bristle brights and #2 & #4 synthetic brights for details plus #2 rigger. Part of the texture on this painting is from acrylic modeling paste (Liquitex) brushed with a #12 bristle flat on the 12" by 16" birch panel covered with 2 coats of acrylic gesso. This underlying texture makes it easy to dry brush on details and keep it painterly. Stu

Tony, thanks for your compliments. I always use a limited palette to get better color harmony: Usual colors are yellow ochre , ultramarine blue, transparent earth red, viridian, hansa yellow medium, quinaqridone red, napthol scarlet and quick dry white (all from Gamblin). I do use some dioxazine purple and sometimes Indian red as well. I also use an alkyd medium (Galkyd lite). So the answer is 7 plus white. My grays are usually mixed with ultramarine blue, transparent earth red, and the quidk dry white. Stu
