Yellow Onion - Values 9-7-5-3-1

Oils, approx. 6"x8", A value study from Richard Robinson's Color Class using a limited value palette of 9-7-5-3-1. I had never done a really dark background before, and I was working on lost and found edges. Comments always welcome. Hope you enjoy my efforts. Ro

I was working my way through Richard's color course and this is one of the exercises trying to see color as values. I did several B&W paintings trying to see the values. I vowed to keep painting the B&W ones until I used up all the paint I had mixed! I actually really started "getting into it" and started noticing the reflected light of the object into the cast shadow! Wow. I thought it was really a lot of fun. I built a 3 sided box and had one bright light source for some strong shadows, then I just started paying attention. It is amazing the things I was seeing when I took the time to look and look and look. Ro
