IN "Awakening" - that was the first and only time that I had worked from a live model. It was quite challenging! One of the mirrors was there, and I iimagined the 2nd. It was so interesting how different all the paintings were!
I truly did consider it a blessing to be able to bring my sister's portrait alive, as I was working from a less-than-the-best photograph. The night I took it with my cell phone, I captured such a beautiful and elusive expression on her face - and I just loved it. I had kept it on my phone for several years - and then when she died, it became a focal point at her funeral. All the family members I shared it with really loved it too. We were very close, and due to her suffering, I thought I was ready for her to pass on - but her passing has left a real hole in my heart. We were so connected on so many levels. Thankfully, my relationships with my other sister, and one of my brothers, have deepened - and that has been a blessing for all of us. I have also been blessed that so many complete strangers have been touched by her portrait. She would have loved that - that people can see the serenity, that they realize she was close to God - because during her 12 year struggle with cancer her whole goal in life became to share her faith in God with others.
Funny, about RR painting. You could have done it! I just had a thought that I should try to copy a couple of RR paintings just to better understand his new "soft-foggy-look" he is doing. I think his work just keeps getting better and better.
Thank you Dorian, It is evident you are a happy, encourager. Sometimes a rare species in this old world. We are all beginners...the lessons never stop and I can see that you are coming along very well. The most important thing in my opinion is that you are enjoying the process. I feel like a beginner too, so days more than others. Yea! I've got me a friend! :))
Hi Dorian, I'm most pleased to be your friend. I've been admiring your works. Am I correct in saying your use water soluble oils? I'll be pestering you with questions! LOL
Sorry I'm so late in responding. Thank you so much for your comments on my 'Unfinished' and 'Gum Tree' paintings. Your gallery is wonderful. I hope to have a go with oils one day. I'm limited to w/c at the moment, but enjoying the challenge.
