Any opinions on water soluable oils vs regular oil paints?

Thnak you. I started with acrylics but am trying to switch to Oils so I can do the workshops in Hawaii in Sept.
Acrylics dry too quickly for outside, windy conditions. So I am doing some oils - actually love the feel of them and the
ability to blend and fix and play. It is making me "loosen up" which is what I have been looking to do - as my acrylics
tend to be very detailed. So it is fun. Just wondering if the water soluable might dry quicker so I can transport the paintings I do from the workshop and get them home. I appreciate your input.

Hi Rita,
WSOs will not dry any faster than regular oils. However there are many quick dry mediums that you can get specifically for WSOs. Or you could get a panel carrier that holds and separates wet canvas panels for transport-then you could use any oils that you wanted. Here's a link for canvas carriers:

BTW-what WSO paints were you thinking of using? Contrary to what the other person said, there are WSOs with a buttery texture such as Talens Cobra line.
Thanks - need to get the panel carrier for sure. I have not purchased any WSOs yet - just bought
Oils and want to use those if possible. I have walnut oil and walnut alkyd medium as well as GAMSOL...now trying to
figure out what works to do what with the oils. Cleaning the brushes is so different than acrylics -I have a learning curve..
Also going back over all the workshops to study all the techniques I missed while too busy to paint all this year. Real studio time is here for me. Thanks for all the help. I sure like this site bettr than ole Facebook!

Hi Rita I use and love WMO's! The drying time is the same as traditional oils. What is great is the soap and water clean up. I only use water for clean up and use the WMO thinner, and or walnut oil to thin my paint.
I hope you find answers to some of your questions at the above link! dor:))
And here is another one http://watersolubleoils.forumotion.com/
Hi Rita - I use Holbein (Aqua Duo) WMO and love them.....as Dorian mentioned above, using just soap/water to clean up with is great! I too use a Walnut oil medium at times, although recently I've just been using the paint straight out of the tube with no medium. Anyway, I definitely WON'T be going back to 'regular' oil paints...WMO's suit me just fine! Good luck!
Steve
Thanks! Can't wait to try them....appreciate the insight.

I certainly will Doug, but it may not be for a little while as life is not allowing me to get to my paints at the moment, sooooo frustrating! But my DS WSOs have now arrived and of course I took a sneak peek inside one of the tubes and it looks scrumptiously buttery, just like real oils! So here's hoping they really are!
