This is a well known place in Namibia, Spitzkoppe. I painted it previously, called the painting "Shadow Shapes". In this painting, I use a bigger canvas and also add a Oryx and foreground to give the rocks some size. Comments welcome.

Well not a "dirty blob of paint" . But once you put the shadow shape in, you will not need that dark spot anyway. You will want the dark shadow up against the light of the sky. BTW, you idea of putting the animal in for scale was a good idea! :)
Thank you for your kind comments. Thank you Michael for your advice. I appreciate that. I think I am going to take that far distant rock behind the bread shape rock away as well. That also bothers me. It does not read as a rock far away but rather than a dirty blob of paint.
Aurelia, your color harmonies are very good. Your color is very strong with nice abstract shapes. My only comment is that I would suggest you extend the shadow on the far left ..up the side of the long, bread shaped rock. That way, you connect your darks into a single shape and you automatically give a better shape to that area. The dark crack on that rock ...break it up so it does not make two equal round shapes ..and give it some cool color like you have in the other shadows. All this stuff I am saying would tie the composition together with connected value shapes. Your use of complimentary hues withing the warm light areas is amazing!! ..good work.
Lovely textures!
