Oil on textured panel, 11" by 14", plein air. This little cottage in Ross, CA, with it's wooden flag under the eaves plus a flag on a flagstaff, the red umbrella and red flowers in window boxes really caught my eye on a nice sunny day. This seemed to me to be all about red, white and blue amongst the greenery.

Beautifully done.
Thanks Jon! I didn't do my usual Notan for this but just sketched it on the canvas panel after checking out the Notan with Value Viewer. I have some slightly wonky perspective errors, but I am glad that I got the light and shadows clearly separated to give that "clarity" that I don't always manage!!
Like the 'clarity' of the light
Sounds really interesting Stuart! Never spent much time in Northern, CA., but used to get up to San Francisco just for a day or two at a time when I worked for Grubb & Ellis Commercial R.E years ago. Bet the area is really charming and ritzy...know I'd love it!
Candi, Ross is a little incorporated town with about 1000 homes between Kentfield and San Anselmo in the Ross Valley. Everyone picks up their mail as the post office with no delivery to homes. Sean Penn bought 3 adjacent houses there, tore them all down, built a mansion with a wall around it and is never seen around town. A lot of wealthy and very private people live there. There were a lot of old summer houses there from before the Golden Gate Bridge opened in 1935 and the only way to get to Marin from SF was by ferry; they are the usual tear downs. It's kind of the Emerald Bay of Marin County, along with Belvedere (the little island right next to Tiburon).
CA is so outrageously priced! I used to live in Newport Beach, couldn't even afford to spend a weekend there now! Gee, I've never even heard of Ross!??
So cheery Stuart! Love the foreground sidewalk and road too!
Thanks Laura and Susan!! This was fun to paint!
