Oil on paper, 11 x 15 inches.
This famous scene immediately sprang to mind when I saw the painting of Shark Fin Cove. Coincidently there is a dark circular cave in the same place!!!

Good dramatic painting, Mairo. Stylised in a way with the dark shadow shapes and simplified contours. You've done a good job of using the concepts from the lesson. My only thoughts are that if you want it to look more realistic, less stylised, to lighten the shadows a little and add more colour in them, and break up the smooth line along the top of the hill.
Hi Jan, your photos of Etretat are wonderful, thanks for adding them. It's a nice coincidencr! I love the colours in the first one.
2 pictures during my stay at Etrat during 2011.. I hope you enjoy this ones. I live in the Netherlands so this is nearby 600 km from home.
what an amazing place! i would love to see it someday. you did a great job on your ocean and beach. i think what might make it even better is lightening up your dark areas so that your hightlights are the star. i noticed richard shys away from using straight black. all of your blue toned shadows look great and really give depth to the cliffs without taking anything away from that beautiful arch. :)
Why "infamous" Mairo?
