I like the slight wobble in the cup. It'makes it a painting not a photo!

stu - i like your fixes!!!...and diana has it right - just to complicate things a bit more for you...that lettering needs to go around...see..when you get into such details...i'd probably have just blurred the whole thing so i wouldn't have to deal with that...(lol)...it's pouring down rain here in indiana - i need to get to my studio - maybe i can have another crack at fruit and a white vessel...do i have time?  if i could ever get off this computer...

Thanks Li.  The biscotti and navel orange tasted good as did the coffee.  The blood orange looked good but did not taste very good.  Stu

Stuart, your cool dark green background contrast efficiently agains light bright warm part of front. I like the way you use bread and bloody red orange to enhence the variation of the value and colour. It makes this complex setup a reasonable relationship and order in terms of theme, colour and value. I also appreciate the way you express  the details on the jar with the shadow. At the beginning, I thought that your oranges can be put on more yellow orange color instead of grey yellow. But as I exame the direction of the light and shadows  I realized that the color you are using is just right  to homarnize the other things around them and to make your painting in unity. Very realistic, Great job!

Kay, you are right about the competition, but actually more than one focal point makes your eye move around the painting.  However the comments by Janine Wardle about darkening the fruit behind the blood orange to the left of the cup and by Dania Bree about brightening up some of the other fruit and darkening the dark side of the jar would all make the painting stronger.  I am always amazed at the power of more than one set of eyes.  Thanks a lot for your compliments and comments.   Stu

Love the light reflected off the fruit and that coffee looks good. You have made some great connections overlapping the fruit and the containters.  I wonder if the light on the coffee and the light on the fruit compete for the focal point?
