A first go - my paints are still wet and my brushes are still full of paint - if you have any suggestions, please don't hesitate, I can still change it easily. I had a tough time with different values of orange paint and with getting the jug to look round - which it doesn't.

Thank you Richard - I'm going to see if I can fix that.  I'm currently working on my 3rd version of this and trying to loosen up....

WONDERFUL colour and form in the oranges! Jug could do with some darker shadows to help with the form.

painting IS harder than drawing.  BUT you have drawing skills and that is the first step to a good painting.  My advise is the take your time no rush.  Watch Richards video on the oranges again, I did.  I can't wait to paint mine, but I am doing more watching first, this time.  Our brain thinks we know what to do, but we keep doing what we are used to doing and not what we are being taught.

Thanks for the suggestions - I've started another which has already gotten a bit too fussy - why is painting so much harder than drawing?

Hi Casey,  I'm not so sure about the white cloth in the background as it is pointing out of the picture.  Also, the direction of the darkest orange slice is pointing the same direction as the cloth.  Might look much better if it is pointing at the vase in the total opposite direction.  Also, too much white with the plate and the cloth.  Good attempt, I havent done anything yet!

HI Casey - I like how you have cropped the composition - whites are hard (that's why Richard has set us the task I suppose) anyway when I look at your set-up photo the white of the jug is warmer than the white of the cloth.  Also there is an orange/pink reflected light on the cloth behind the rear orange.  Other than those little things you've done a great painting.
