Julie - congratulations on the sale of your painting, it's quite a thrill, isn't it?  I love your three little birds on the fence.  Your treatment of the fence is sooo good.  And the birds are so fluffy!     Love them!   Rita

Thanks Julie, I'll check & see if I have that volume. I really like to try new approaches as I enjoy experimenting... it "loosens'' my style up. I tend to use watercolour when I want to be more 'precious; or delicate, then acrylics when I want to push the colours more and free up my brush work, and now seeing the inks... wow! Maybe one day I might even get to doing abstracts. Find it so hard NOT to paint a like-ness of what I'm seeing . Have a great Easter - Fabulous weather so far eh?

Hi Julie

I have posted some portraits. Note that you are a pastel artist, I love to use pastels for portraits. When I watch Richard's demos it is like watching a magic brush. I always feel like that when using pastels. The work just appears somehow. You are obviously very adept at the medium, your work has a wonderful liveliness. I envy you living in god's chosen country. Spent a lot of time in Tassie - most of it aghast at the surroundings. Hope to get back there soon.

Hi!

I seen you pictures and you clearly know what your doing!

Useing pastels are not common, and I found during my search of artist who do a wide range of quality, its hard to master the pastel painting, and choosing paper and pastels is a big part of it.

Have you seen the pastel tutorials of Bill Hosner, Daniel Greene or Gwenneth Barth? They are truly inspiring

Thanks for your encouragement Julie. Someday I hope to paint as beautifully as you!

Great surprise in my mail today

Posted on February 10, 2012 at 21:51 2 Comments

I got home from a busy day at the office to find a cheque in the mail for the sale of "Me and My Family". This is exciting news for me as I've only been painting for 2 years and this is the 3rd painting I've sold. It is a great boost of encouragement for me to keep going. Challenging myself with workshops like the pear/grape challenge and continuing to work on the basics and not try to rush the learning is starting to work for me.  I'll now be tackling Workshop 6 challenge tomorrow with…
