Oil on canvas panel 11" by 14" -- The artist at work is Katie Horacek. I snapped a photo of the scene that I had been painting and caught her hard at work painting. It was just before Noon and we had both been painting in the shade of some large trees on a day that reached over 100 degrees that afternoon. Katie is a new member on this site; please welcome her. I had help with this painting from Katie, who encoraged me to make it more dramatc with a lot of contrast and from Michael Severin who gave me some excellent advice.

This is super Stu. I love the highlights on her face and arm. Its a very captivating painting with lots of interesting details her brushes etc and the bit of writing on the back of her pad its great! a lovely composition. Well done you
Nice one, Stu. Well done.
Lovely painting; interesting scene!
good work.. i would just revisit the shadowed areas and make sure that the shadows aren't blocky by lightening the shadows with the exception of the terminator lines...also,inside the highlighst put yet another touch of highlight.. these will give a more 3 d effect.. Not that I am all that great but these things I have noticed to make it more 3 d..
Stu, very nice improvements!!! .....I see you put more color into the dress and also the light and shadows of the ground. I like the dappled light on the arm and the cool reflected light. The rim light relates much better to the shadowed head. Great job Stu!! I don't know if this photo is better then the other, but the hat seems to have a lot more color also?? ..very nice.
I m studying the way that you have created the light and shadow on her skin. It is very believable, the face in shadow is great with color in the shadow but I confused by her nose, the shape doesn't seem quiet right. Beautifully done and brave of you to paint a friend :D
Great Stu! I like the painting. It must be quite difficult getting that light shadow effect right!!!!! I am also wondering that I should buy some gloves when painting.... thought about it many times but I have never done it.....
