I found a photo with a whole row of gondolas and decided to apply three to the assignment and put Richard's background in. One gondola is a whole lot easier than three. :-)

I think your gondolas are perfect Nancy, and also really like the tilt of some of the poles!  Also really like your detail work on the fronts and sides of the boats!!!  Just wondering though, is it me, or does the horizon line seem to be tipping slightly up to the right?

Silvana, I did get into a lot of trouble. I had to wipe those pesky boats off three times before getting them right. The funny thing is...they were perfect in my thumbnail sketch. Go figure!..

Michael, thank you for your kind comments and suggestions. Yes, I did use thalo for the blue...great observation! I see what you mean, and I will attempt to warm up the stairs tarps. Maybe I will put a few warm sparkles in the water. I always learn so much from you. Thank you again.

Frank, thank you! I am not familiar with Dan Edmonson's work. I looked him up and love his rich and gorgeous paintings. Thank you for the compliment and for introducing him to me.

Lori, I know what you mean. The light thing is especially complicated when you are making up a scene. As for the gondolas, thank you...and, no, I have never been to Venice and truly wish I could go one day. It is in my bucket list. Thanks again.

Nancy... you've got into a lot of trouble! Love your gondolas! AND I bet it was much more difficult than just one of them!!!

Nancy, your composition is quite good!!!  I love the rhythm of the boats and poles!!!  May I ask what blue you are using?  ....  Your blue might be a little to "sweet".  If this is thalo blue, try using some tints of cad red to gray it down a little ..or introduce color notes of a more warmer nature.  Since you used a lot of the same blue for the water, try bending the blue of the tarps to a more warmer blue ..something a little different.

This looks like a Dan Edmondson module from his AMP class.

Nice work!

Nancy you accomplished your goal and then some! Your gondolas look so real! Have you seen them in person? Great detail which adds to their prominence in the painting! My "light" question was really thinking out loud because the light and reflection stuff always puzzles me.
