View from the Ridge

Plein air oil 9" by 12" on canvas panel. Painted up on top of the ridge above the Kingsbury Grade on the Nevada side of Heavenly Valley. Painted on the only day that I skied on a trip with my family (snow was not good). This is late in the day and looking into the sun that is about to set in the West. That's not snow but rocks. I am at about 7300 feet in the Sierra's at Lake Tahoe and there's not much snow at all in late February.

Actually, I just walked across the road, because we were staying about 2 blocks away from there at a time share condo with my daughter and her family. My wife chickened out on the one day that we went skiing, but I had a great time skiing with my daughter and her 12 and 14 year old girls--nothing beats young legs!!!! The snow was pretty bad, but since my skis are so old, the rented skis took the beating!!! Actually there were not that many rocks showing (yet!), but it was icy in the morning and slushy in the afternoon, but we did get a lot of runs in that day. I doubt I will ski again this year unless some great snow appears. I expect to see some snow in 10 days when I head to Lone Pine for Frank's Spring Sierra workshop.
