This one is my favorite also Stu!!!!  Your value and color relationships are excellent.

I like this painting, especially the contrast between the mud and puddles with the sky reflection on them ( I imagine a low tide). They kind of bring life to the painting and invigorate it.

Thanks Jon.  Nice day and nice views.  My plein air work is improving as my brush miles increase.   Less failures and more winners.   Brush miles help.   Stu

Thanks Linda.   It was the patterns in the mudflats that caught my eye with the warm grays and blues and faint reflections of green from the bluffs overhead.  Stu

Laura, China Camp was originally a Chinese fishing village in the 1800s. People from China started immigrating to California during the gold rush in the 1850s and Chinese laborers did most of the work building the Western part of the transcontinental railroad in the 1860s. But they were excluded from many jobs and from living in the same areas as the immigrants from the Eastern part of the US and European countries. One of the places in Marin where they lived was in this Chinese fishing village. The State park has a lot of hiking trails, beaches, marshlands and the little village itself. If you look through my paintings on this site you will see several from China Camp; it is a favorite of many plein air workshop instructors and artists. The mud was a little grayer than my painting and I have warmed it up a bit. The Saturday painting group goes out to China Camp to paint several times during the year; we will have to paint ther together; there. Is a lot of history there. Stu

I guess, that is the reason called "China Camp"
