Hi Carlo. A beautifully designed street scene! Your painting has a very successful 2 value notan with the shadows dominating. You have created very nice abstract shapes with the sunlight and shadow. I especially like your very nice negative shape of the sky peeking through the building shapes. Your focal point is well established with the sunlight hitting the real building. Any figures in the composition could easily become a focal point, but you have kept the figures in this painting from doing that by keeping their values the same as the shadow. We thus notice them, but do not linger there to long as we continue down the street toward the light ..we love to go toward the light! The one problem that I see is the obscure shapes on the right. I am having difficulty identifying what it is? The bright orange looks like a flame? ..it is drawing the eye toward it and keeping us there for far to long ..because we are wondering what we are looking at. It is good to be a little vague and let the viewer supply the info ..the viewer likes to be part of the process ..but those shapes are much to vague and we get annoyed that we cannot see what it is. Very nice painting Karlo, with great value relationships, bold brushwork, and good composition.
