Hi Stuart,

Thank you so much for the input. I will definitely be doing some research on the "colorist" movement. I have never heard of them before. I love this group already!

Sara, the Cape Cod School of Art focuses on the "colorist" movement in American Impressionism (I guess they started it).  I think the founder was Charles Hawthorne and his student Henry Hensche expanded the movement.  Lois Griffel and Camille Przewodek are contemporary master painters who call themselves "colorists" and have taken up the torch.  They are at the opposite end of the impressionist spectrum from the "tonalists" who adhere to the traditions of the Barbizon artists by emphasizing the tonal values and subduing the color.  This is a lovely and well done painting and your color harmony brings it all together.    Check out the colorists, because I agree with Michael, your style is quite reminiscent of their works.   Stu

Hi Michael,

I am not sure where this style came from. This was plein air in Umbria. My dog and I were perched in a hollow and I was forced to paint very quickly because shotguns were blasting around us. It was "cinghiale" (wild boar) hunting season. I was reasonably safe being on private property but my 100 lb dog was sitting on my feet. I will look up the Cape Cod School of Art...I am not familiar with it, thanks.

This style reminds me of the Cape Cod School of Art ..are you a student of that discipline?
