Painted from a photo taken by one of my sons during a hike near Kelowna, B.C. Tried a limited palette (UB, YO, Permanent Rose, Cad Orange + white), which was interesting. Tried to apply what I have learned about atmospheric perspective...!

Jessica, I use viridian on my palette for mixing, as Michael indicates. Thalo green is just too intense a pigment for me. You do get beautiful grays when you mix it with permanent rose, quinacridone red or permanent alizarin crimson. You have really done a superb job with your atmospheric perspective and your water shapes; there is grat depth in this painting. Stu
Hi Jessica, In the case of a limited palette that does not have thalo green, yes, you could mix a blue/green somewhat looking like thalo green, it would gray the Rose okay ..but not perfectly. ..and that is okay. It would not disturb your color harmony if you did put viridian or thalo green on your palette ...but did not use them as greens ...just for making beautiful grays. I do not use thalo green anymore as I will, like you, mix my own greens and grey them with violets made up of Perm. Rose/ultra blue depending on how warm or cool the greens are. Did that answer your question okay?
Hi Michael - I have a technical question - do you think there is an advantage in using a direct compliment, eg pthalo green as you mentioned for permanent rose - or could it be better overall for the painting's harmony to mix the green from the limited palette (as I did here)?
Thank you so much Ninging, Dorian & Silvana! I am very glad you all like it - it means a lot!
I totally agree with all the comments here. It is a great piece.
Great atmospheric perspective Jessica........smiles coming your way : ))
I love your painting! It's wonderful!
Excellent!! .....it's direct compliment is Thalo Green.
Wow, thank you all so much!!! You are all really encouraging! Michael - I added Permanent Rose to my palette after reading some of your comments in your previous posts. First time I used it - it adds a lot of warmth - really like it!
