Acrylic 11x14. This is my first attempt at a painting using the Munsell theory. It was an interesting lesson because this was the first time using most of the colors.

Thank you all so much, I really appreciate all of your comments! Silke, I thought about adding shadows to the grass areas; but, there were none there and the light was bouncing around so much, I was afraid, I wouldn't get them right. Charles, I was using pthalo blue for the sky and it took me several tries to get the sky as light as I did. It was very light on my palette but when it dried, it was so dark! I'd always heard that pthalo blue is powerful; but, I had no idea how powerful! I have to practice with it more so that I can get to where I can control what will end up on my canvas and then I can try lightening that area, which I agree should be lighter!
Wonderful execution of light and shadow with your use of cool and warm colors, especially for your first try with the Munsell theory and those colors. Your sand has a believable quality of undulation and softness. The variation of color and value in your grass is impressive in describing the sunlight and shadows . Did you consider a lighter value at the horizon line, at least on the left side? The solid blue sky brings it to the dune's edge which caused me to stop there (which could be what you intended) yet the scene suggests there would be miles between the dunes and the horizon line. Very well done.
Love the capture of the light! Beautifully done Susan!!
Very nice painting and transition of colors, Susan! I only would add shadows to the looms of grass to show the direction of light and even add more interest.
Lovely warm and cool colors in the sand Susan, and really like the color of your sky! Very inviting! Like Montalvo, I am off to look up the Munsell theory...
Munsell theory, never heard of it. Going to look it up. Did you try it for Workshop46? Susan.....this is REALLY well done. At least for me and my eyes it is. Im pretty sure others can comment and we all can learn from this. Anyways, what I like about it is the transition of colors. It has a mood to it. That's what I want to achieve in my paintings. I can paint, but can I capture the audience and get them to a place in there hearts of memories? For me... this is a winner.
