Acrylic on Box Canvas, 14 X 18 in.
I am really a Watercolour painter, but I am giving opaque media a go. I like the way I am able to over paint and change (ie. fix) things, which I did quite a bit of incidentally. Basically I have moved the foreground fur trees from the right to the left in order to balance the large hill mass. Somehow that hill has ended up quite geometric in shape, which I always try and avoid, oh well better luck next time. I liked the river as it wound up and toward the distant mountains. This is my first entry in the workshop, having recently joined the group, all comments welcome.

This is a lovely painting Bob I like the symmetry and the way you handled the trees in the foreground. Am another amateur water colourist trying a new medium but not doing so well as you. look forward to seeing more of your work and maybe some of your water colours as well. Do you live on Great Barrier??

Great atmospheric perspective, guess watercolor is not your only talent.

This has a light, airy feel to it and your atmospheric perspective is wonderful. The viewer is instantly drawn into the distance. Well done.

Hi Judy, thanks, this looks like its going to be fun.  I live on a small island 60 miles off the coast of New Zealand so this connection with other artists will be wonderful, not to mention the workshops to get me motivated. I will post o few of my watercolours on my page if you are interested. I love watercolour too, google Josepg Zubkvic and see his work, its amazing.  Cheers, Bob

Welcome to the Group !!!   I also am a watercolorist and have gone from acrylic to water based oil.  I think it is very liberating to know you can just  paint over your mistakes.  I do miss the luminosity of watercolor, so the verdIict is still out.  GREAT JOB ON YOUR FIRST GO !

Thanks Diane and Stuart, I found this quite a challenge and was real careful to do my notan and rough studies first.  After I had painted it,( took me about 2 days!!! ) I sneaked a peak at Richards.  It was good for me to see how he designed his picture, doing stuff I never thought of.  Your right Dianne I did struggle with that right hand hill, made it too big for one thing.  Okay, bring on the next challenge.

Bob, very nice atmospheric perspective.  You have done something with that lower left corner that has frustrated many of us by filling it with close up trees.  It really does balance out the large dark hill mass on the right.  Nice painting.  Stu

Love your atmopheric perspective Bob and realness of those fore ground trees. I think the middle hill on the left is a little too dark, a mistake I made myself "among many others" Great job:-)
