Well, after a try with sails (disaster!), I felt I wanted to be more literal about it - just see if I could capture the light by paying attention to values and color temperature - oil, 50 x 65 cm

I really like the painting also Jon!!! .... you were quite successful in your goal of capturing the light using value and color temperature ...good idea. Your darks are so well connected ..a nice reverse "S" shape. Your use of warm light against those darks gives a fantastic illusion of sunlight!!! I love your use of warm reflected light upon the planes of the buildings, boats, and even the tree on the left!! ..good job on that .. I really like how you put the two figures connected to your shadow shape ..a nice feel about that. Very good space division ..just a doggone handsome painting ....I have 3 favorites from this workshop ...this is one of them!!! Congratulations on a fine painting.
Hi, Glenys - thanks for taking the time to comment! :) Yes, it is complicated - and I think I should have used more suggestion - it's pretty photo realistic! I spent more time than usual on it - oh well - may be that gives it a certain 'clarity'
great job Jon for a complicated composition.
Hi, Robert - thanks!

Wow - thanks guys! - I have to admit - after the first one went down the tubes, I was really pleased that this one satisfied me more
