This my painting completed in Photoshop, a combination of oils on canvas board and digital manipulation. I can't see getting the oil painting completed until the new year. My plan here was to use radiating lines to create movement. The original painting is half completed and is 12"X16".

You would have to get top grades for trying so hard and putting in so much study . I can see that this is paying off for your paintings are really working.

Thank you for the helpful advice, Denise.  I'm going to try to start working on the color units as soon as things calm down around here.

Nice Painting!  I like the un-muddied colors.  Clean painting.

Love the purples! They look great with the soft green.

Lovely colours Denise, and nice composition. The rocks on the right are my favourite bit:)

Hello Casey, I've been studying the color units as much as I can from the virtual art academy and I've been trying to use Richards color method from his color lessons and now I'm trying in particular to use the color  gamut masking tool  http://www.livepaintinglessons.com/gamutmask.php The other thing that I've been trying to do especially with these Workshops is to find pictures by other artists where I like the color they have used and try that out. In this Workshop4 I used a couple of the Sargent watercolors to try a similar color scheme.

I find color a very large and daunting subject so thanks for asking, I very much appreciate that you have noticed.

This Sargent watercolor I really liked and had the rocks and water and you have to love his use of color so full of light.

Yes - I like the sketched in version very much.  What really impresses me is your use of color - that was a real stumbling block for me as the photo doesn't show much color at all.  Do you have some experience with this sort of scene in plein-air? or just a well-developed artistic imagination?  Any tips on learning to do that - eg lessons from the virtual artist? My original color studies looked like they were half in color and half in black and white.

Thanks Susan, I was having trouble with that tree on this digital image and I see what you mean. I'm hoping to still get to completing this in oils and will try to figure out where it's gone wrong for me also. I actually like the sketched in effort on the painting it's loose and holds up well there and I had intended to leave it that way and concentrate on the patterns in the rock face to the right in the foreground. Here is the original unfinished I'm not presenting for the workshop though.
