Thanks Jess! I hope so too!! it's amazing how the background completely changes the painting! Even though I didn't touch the figure, it looks so different I the two versions! I need to put this off for another week & then hopefully I'll be better able to focus!

Looking forward to seeing the final result, Lori!  Quite a challenge!  The figure is so well done; hope you can figure the background out!

Thanks Charles. I'm just sitting to try and scrape the grass and background- hoping I don't touch the figure in doing so..then to work out a color strategy to get the sunlit effect I'm looking for- without the garish green from the original painting. Fingers crossed !

You have captured the action.  Excellent detail in the leg positions and body positioning.

Aha!! That's why this feels so gray! You're so right about doing the color maps..I paint first, think later! Bad habit! No worries Michael..I will get this right! I truly appreciate your help!!

Lori, you have made this  into an overcast day ...  fine, if that is what you want ..but I do not think it is what you wanted.  Suggest you scrape the green off, take a deep breath, and then paint some color maps (remember the VAA lessons on that?) ....take some scrap canvas or board and then paint some color sketches after the maps.  Don't do anything to your painting until you have resolved this issue with your color studies ...no sense ruining this beautiful painting with trial and error stuff.  Anyway, if you ruin this painting, I will feel very, very guilty!!!  Sunny grass ....yellow/greens (warm), blue/green shadows   (cool).  Lay off the white paint unless absolutely no other way to increase value in a given area.   Please do the color maps, sketches, and color study first!  Suggest you do not do anything to the figure until you have resolved the larger issue ...resolving that might tie everything together nicely.

I think desaturating has helped in many ways, but I'm thinking she now seems less vibrant. Not sure if that's due to the colors I've used in my greens and background, or if I simply need to reinforce the lights on her?
