Oil on canvas, 18" by 24". This is Judah Street at 45th Avenue (out in the "Sunset District" or "the Avenues" in San Francisco looking East. The "N-Judah Car" of the SF "Muni" runs along the tracks. The cars are silver gray and not very colorful. The setting sun was at my back when I photographed this scene. This is a mixed business and residential area of SF with shops and resturants along Judah Street. This is about 5 or 6 blocks from the "Great Highway" and Ocean Beach. The street car goes right past UCSF Medical Center and all the way downtown on Market Street to the Embarcadero on SF Bay and then out to the AT&T baseball stadium where the 2012 World Series hampions, the SF Giants, play. Quite a ride.

Here is my uncropped and unedited digital image that I used for this painting.  I took the photo on Feb. 9, 2013 at 6:25 PM.  As Xiao Li pointed out, the distant yellow church is St. Ann's of the Sunset.   Any artist on this site who wants to paint from this photo is more than welcome to do so.   Stu

Thanks Xiao Li. What did you do at UCSF? Stu

Wow!!  Stu, this is really bring back my memory.  I had lived in San Francisco for 11 years.  I droved on this Judah Street every day to go to UCSF. The church that bathed in sunshine in your picture is St. Ann Church and they also have a St. Ann School where my son went when he was a little boy.   Looking at your painting is like going through a time tunnel and  bring me back to those unforgettable days.  Thank you for posting your painting here.

Great Job Stu! Like everyone else was saying, the lighting is great in this painting. I also like how you handled all the vehicles with all the highlights. ... Excellent!

Stu, the light in your painting is stunning.  Every object has a glow  and captures that moment in time as the sun sets. Also, I'm so impressed with the number of cars that you painted.

Thank you Dor. I do like the painting and I am pleased with how it came out. I have been working on it for several months, and it just happened to be a SF street scene when Richard set this up as a challenge. I would never have tried a painting this large or this complicated for the monthly challenges. Thanks for being the delightful cheerleader and supporter that you are. Stu
