Hi Lori! No, not usually, but I was itching to do this challenge, and knew I didn't have the time! Figured if I was going to do something would lean it more to the Southwest (I live in New Mexico). Worked on my oil yesterday, and still will be at it today for some time! When I used to paint in oils, I always did an under painting and then glazes...this is totally new to me! Very challenging, and very difficult for me too!
Thanks Ana! I will practice!
Candi! You should not give up on the palette knife, actually is a painting knife and is a awesome tool. I think you need more practice to understand it. It's very versatile and gives the freshness every artist is craving for. I am far for an accomplished artist but I use my painting knife in almost every painting I paint. It's great for straight lines but is unbeatable when applied mixed colour on the canvas especially if you don't mix them very well. You will get fresh, clean streaks of each colour. You can not achieved that oterways. The secret is to go only once as everything will change in the second go and can not be repeated. If you work alla prima, you can apply a clean colour in top of the one already on the canvas, with a light touch. Try it! I am sure you will love it. Cheers!
Thank you so much Ana! Love yours! Struggling with my oil after Richard's now....how in the h_ _ _ does anyone master a palette knife! I gave up!
I like the colour harmony in your painting and the softness. Cheers!
Thanks Ruby!

Thank you Laura!
