Thanks Michael for that explanation!!! Had no idea of what it'd meant!

Thanks you Stu, George and Pauline!!! I think the blues look quite strong in the photo... but it doesn't really bother me!

Candi!!! You made me laugh!!!! Yes, I need to take that copybook on Monday to school.... and acrylics are complex but they dry fast!!!! I prefer oils.... the blending is much better!!!

In regards to the description of a high key painting:  Most of the impressionist paintings are high key.  If you study an impressionist painting, you will note that their darkest dark begins at value 5 or 6.  They might or might not have a dark accent.  Monet's painting of a sunset over Venice (forgot the title), is actually a low key painting ...even with the setting sun!!! ...which he keeps at middle value and then works down the value scale from there!! ..amazing.

Hi Silvana.  Low Key:  on a 9 value scale ..a low key would be a painting that has it lightest light at middle value 5, and then goes DOWN ....to 4, 3, 2 ..maybe 1.   So the painting is based on the 4 or 5 low values.  Your painting is a  ..LOW KEY MAJOR ... if you had a very high value highlight from the other end of the value scale ..it would be called a:  LOW KEY MINOR.  High key paintings are the opposite:  The darkest dark begins at middle value 5 and works UPWARD to the lightest value.  That is called a HIGH KEY MAJOR.  If you introduce a dark accent from the lower part of the scale, then it is called a ..HIGH KEY MINOR.   A  MIDDLE KEY painting would be one that has 5 or 6 values in the middle of the value scale.  A middle key painting could also have a light and dark accent from each extreme end of the value scale.

Unfortunately Michael,no... I can't saw it off.... I'll tell all of you a little secret... as I don't really know what to do with my paintings, specially if they are not my original ones, I decided to paint the copybook where I place my student's grades...

Here it is!!! Richard Roger's painting on one side, and Richard Robinson's on the other!!!! LOL!!!They'll be with me upto the end of the year.... cherishing the grades of about 120 teenagers...
