30 cm x 50 cm, Oil, Pleinair

Two days after painting it, i consider this my best painting yet. It has something that all my others don't have, more personality, something this photo does not really tell. I do not know what it is exactly but I am sure if you where standing next to me here, most of you would agree. It does have its flaws, too careless with the suggestion of the details.

Thanks for the clarification Michael.. I wasn't sure-- which should have indicated to me it wasn't so!

I agree with you Thomas ..great painting.  Lori, I do not believe the painting is cut in half ....Thomas has created a nice melodic line with his alignment of the boats ...It creates a very good shape in the water ..if he had painted the boats straight across the picture, then the water shape would have been boring and  ..yes .cut in half.  In this case, there are different base lines creating individual planes ...for instance ..the buoy is in front of the boats, which are on a different plane then the next row of boats ..etc.  The repetition of the verticals has variety in the differences of their reflections ...all different lengths.  This all contributes to the 3 horizontal planes to work together in good unity and harmony.

Hi Thomas! Your words make me smile! This is a wonderful painting..I'm noticing the visual music (guess which lesson I'm on?!!).. Of the repeated verticals..the tree, the masts,..also liking the saturated pop of red against the frayed green. I see graceful curve in the line of the boats and subtle s curve of the land bank... and like the cloud color in the water:) well done! I wasn't sure if the painting was cut in half but I don't think I'd like to remove any of that pretty water to bring the horizon down...that's an issue I find myself struggling with.
