The eye level discussion is a little beyond me but I appreciate the information applied to this painting.

Thomas, the "eye level" I am referring to is YOUR eye level.   There is no one eye level ....because it is where ever you are standing (or sitting).  I cannot be sure, of course, but it looks like the observer is on a low dock or on another boat ..and since water is flat, that person ..I assume ..is on the same elevation ..which would match the eye level of the figure standing? ..I guess?  Thomas, think of a beach and the distant sea horizon.  If the beach is flat in elevation, and everyone is standing up (or sitting), then everyone's head would be on the horizon line  (their eye level).  If the beach was slanted toward the ocean, the difference in elevations would cause the standing people (or sitting) to have different eye levels between them. ...the people standing on the SAME elevation would have the SAME eye level.  Man, I hope I did not confuse you!!! :)

Ann, thanks!
So many things in a little painting to consider. Glad to hear that parts of it work.

Michael, very well observed. I painted this from a photo but changed a lot. As it is the water is going downhill indeed. Or the person standing up is a child. So i assume if i would like to choose an observation point above eye level it needs.to be further away from that level to make things clear. Thanks a lot!!

Great loose figures in this painting.

Thomas, great painting! ....I really feel the sunlight.  One thing Thomas, if you are at the same level as figures in teh boat ..and it looks like you are ..then the horizon line is at the eye leve of the person standing up.  The way you have it now, the water looks like it is going downhill because you have put your horizon ABOVE your eye level.
