Xiao, the palette is cad yellow light (cad yellow medium if Gamblin), yellow ochre, burnt sienna, alizarin Crimson, ultramarine blue, thalo green and titanium white. This is a primary palette (neutral yellow, cool red and warm blue plus the earth colors and thalo green added for mixing); my old palette was a split primary palette with warm and cool primaries and several mixing grays. I was mot getting the vivid color that I am now. Michael Severin and Laura Xu were painting with the same palette at the workshop (Frank Serrano has used this same palette for a long time). When we painted the sunset scenes with alpenglow on the mountains we added cadmium red light to the palette. Laura and her husband, Peter, are off touring the Southwest this week (Grand Canyon, Zion, Monument Valley), so you'll have to wait to see all her paintings from the workshop.

Stu, what is your new color palette? How different of this one compared with your old color palette?

Thanks Silvana and Xiao.  I am quite pleased with my new palette.  It seems easier to get more color with it.   I've been using this palette for about a month.   After I painted with Michael and Laura at the end of August, I felt that my paintings did not have enough color in them, and I have been trying since to push my color in the mid values.   I changed my palette over a month ago because of my upcoming workshop that I took this last weekend, and it seems to be working out well for me.   I had been working on my value structure for the past year and not worried too much about the color.   I still have some work to do on my brushstrokes and edges, but I am very pleased with my plein air progress.

Thanks Ann.   I did this one on the way to the workshop when Michael and I stopped on Sonora Pass.   I am putting a lot more color in my paintings than I was a few months ago.

WOW Stu this new use of color is great !  I like the way you use dark values to form the shapes

Thanks Michael.   I just threw one of them into shadow to put it behind the other so it wouldn't compete.  I think it worked ok.
