Thanks Richard for your critique. I am glad you told me about Sergei Bongart. I had never heard of him before. His work is very inspiring.

Love this Tom - beautiful high key colour, GREAT brushwork, design is interesting and I l don't know if this was your goal but you've managed to flatten the picture plane a little by lightening the background and it's making me more aware of the abstract nature of the coloured shapes which I find quite beautiful and intriguing to look at. The only let down for me is the drawing of the jug which seems a little wonky and the way the jug is kissing the pear it's lost some solidity there - I would have made the pear more clearly in front or behind the jug with overlapping. Great work!! Reminds me a bit of Sergei Bongart's style.

Forgot to say how much I like the high key of this painting.

Tom, very interesting composition and nice color harmony with a lot of movement; almost like the jug just tipped over.  Good thing it was empty!  As Saghi said, your expressive brush work really puts life into this painting.  Stu

I like it very much. Your value jugement is very accurate.  It is not easy to have a good observation. You did it so well.

Not having the objects 'kissing' would have made it a lot easier. I really struggled to make that pear look like it was behind the vase. It kept popping up front and floating in space. Thanks for the comments everyone!

Good job Tom, yummy paint texture...and I'd echo exactly what Sharon said.

Very nice job, Tom!  I love the sheen on the pitcher.  I like how the cloth leads the eye in, the bright yellow left corner and the ragged cloth on the right.  A darker background would look good, too, but you wanted a daytime look, that's good too.  The only thing that that I would change is to overlap some objects - not to have the pear/vase kissing. (edges touching)
