Cristina, Colleen, Pandalana, Michael and Britt, many thanks for commenting. I'm not surprised that most of you like the first one best. The second was just playing around, not very well though! 

Pandalana, you make interesting points - I am thinking about them.

Collen, yes, loads of photos. May use some of them for reference.

I like this one better. The other one has less color harmony..a bit too much strong yellow.

I like the abstract quality of it a lot!  There is a place that my eye keeps going to and that is the lower right "arm" area.  I think less texture in that spot would be better.  Because the texture is smaller pieces, that makes it more busy or more movement and pulls you there, where her face has the larger blocks of color. So, if the are near the bottom was more smoother than the rest of her, it would keep me more in the center.  You might even try not painting that area at all and leave the canvas plain white or with a toned ground.  The skin colors are lovely.

Lucky you traveling in India, Michael!  No doubt you managed to get some good photos. 

Love your painting and particularly the brushstrokes.  I like this version better than V2 because of the softer colours around the face.
