I have never been to a European port, so I painted my local Florida. This is 16" x 20", oil on canvas

I love all the feedback I am getting. I plan to have a bit of a go at this painting again when i get some time in the next week.

Beautiful painting, Elfrida.

Love this, Elfrida :)

The figures are great, but I agree with Michael about the surfer looking off the edge of the painting. I like him though, as he is obviously yearning to get into the water, so I'd be tempted to move him onto the dry sand, maybe in place of the figure in green, who doesn't add as much to the story in my humble opinion :)

Love the clouds!

Elfrida this is a wonderful painting, I like it very much. I want to own one of the sail boats, and I love it when the water looks green as it does some days here in North West Florida! Your sky is fabulous and I love your brush work. Sending you smiles ;-)

Thanks michael. I appreciate your feedback. Sometimes my desire to get so much in blinds me to good design principles. Thanks for the connection to Sorolla - I love his light usage, it is miraculous. I've actually already done some greying down but will look again with your suggestions in mind. I'll look at painting out the surf boarder too.

Very nice work!!    This reminds me of a Sorolla. (sic?).  Anyway, try to avoid someone ..or something ...standing at the edge of the painting a looking out of the painting!! ....the viewer also goes out the painting.  Your sea green is over powering and could be grayed with the compliment.  It could also have an infusion of the other sea colors so it would relate to the rest of the painting.  If you cropped this painting just behind the figure with the surfboard....that would be your best composition.  You have told the story ..all that other space is not needed.
