Thanks Jon, I WILL start doing both to my photos! Just did it to the roses I am starting today! APPRECIATE!
Really exceptional!!!
I know Silvana, more like an attempted melon painting! Isn't Michael's advise amazing?!
Lol!! I can't see any pink though.... We are having kind of live lessons from you and Michael!!! Thanks!!! :)
Jon, I kept feeling an Oriental influence when I was attempting this...if only I could get those values (and get the lesson clear tlo begin with)!
Okay, I'll try again!
It's true that removing the distraction of color makes it interesting - gives it a power
Candi ... the cadmium orange is your mother color ... the white and black are just modifiers. Use white to TINT, use black to DARKEN, make a gray from B/W to make tones. BTW, the green shrub in the court yard is actually a middle light value. It is not as light as the light on the courtyard or the top of the wall. That shrub is actually a value Between your dark shadow and lit courtyard . Always compare values against each other ... the bright green "seduced" you into thinking it was a higher value, when it is actually a middle value. Do not think of color when you do this exercise .. think of value, temperature, and shapes.
I gave up on it knew too much detail when I started, but I'm stiil crazy that way. Great lesson though, going to get the new black and try a few more!
