Sara, I'm saddened by the death of Alex Colville. Reading up on him, I imagine he had suffered trauma as a young man when tasked as a war artist to document the horrors of Bergen-Belsen, I am sure that his enigmatic, occluded view of the world stems from those times. I have a visual memory of his work, but not his name. The painting I remember is the one of the labrador sitting next to the man reclining on the ground. Strange,
Unfortunately, the day after I recommended Alex Colville the news reported that he died at the age of 92. The art world on this side of the pond is sad. He will be dearly missed, especially in Canada.
wow... this is different. I like it a lot.
Thanks, Sara. This one was me letting go with an emotional response to a painting I had painted before, one that was much tighter and representational. This definitely is from somewhere inside of me, representing how I feel about the power of healing, how uncontrollable it can be, visceral and bright and burning... Thanks for the pointer to Alex Colville. I will check him out on the web.
Once again...I am moved. You create a mood in your paintings...don't change! You might want to check out one of our Canadian artists who became very famous by creating mood in his paintings, Alex Colville.
