Oil, 8"x10" A study of attempting to get that "spotlight effect" that Richard Robinson does so well. I attempted to get my strokes bolder and less sharp away from the subject. I did a thin glaze over the entire painting finishing with thicker glaze around the edges. As always, comments and suggestions to make the painting better are always welcome. Thanks, Ro

Thank you Roena, I did do just that and removed my painting from this forum but I don't have time right now to send email. I don't think I have very many friends so sometime in the next few days I'm going to send invitations to people I would like to be friends with.
What is a WIP. Your a pretty smart cookie. I'm going to go to my photos work shop and take out the color to see what you see.
p.s. Can you tell your daught that I'm getting ready to start her portrait and that I would like to converse with her and send her my progress as I go. What do you think?

Peni, I dont mind you putting your pic here. What I would suggest to do to get started for help is to go ahead and put it in the gallery/photos........list as a WIP and in the title ask for help. Then send a note to "all your friends list" and tell them you just posted and ask them to look. That is what I did because I put my egg pic in the gallery for 3 days, had 9 people look, but no comments. I copied your pic to my computer and removed the color. The values are really close together like on a cloudy day. If you want punch, I suggest you bring out the sun and give some good shadows and brights. Is this a WC?

Roena, I took my photo off. I could see that it was not appropriate going right in the middle of yours. I will try it another place

Hi Peggy, Thank you for taking the time to look and comment. I think I will give it just a few more days and then re-read all the comments and give it one more session. I do appreciate everyone so much for giving me information to consider. Ro

This is beautiful. Spotlight is so difficult. If you are working at giving the spotlight to the egg I would suggest going a bit darker still with the folds around the egg. But I really like the colors you have used for your glazing and I wouldn't want it to be lost. Maybe go darker on the lower right side to cup the egg in darkness for more drama. I just finished reading the rest of the comments and they already said what I did:)

Terry, one of the problems here is that the photo of the painting looks nothing at all like the painting. The photo looks blue with a harsh red glaze. The original painting is a warm bt sienna orange with gray/blue. // After I finished the painting I did a glaze over the entire thing including the egg. I repainted the egg and the highlight, and made a stronger glaze around the edges of the painting. I thought that sort of brought it all together in a belonging way (?). I'm not sure if you read below where I was painting a gray pic to help my friend in Germany with her first ever oil painting. After she finished her egg, then I started playing with my pic. I agree that some other colors would have made a much better painting. LOL Thanks for commenting as your help is greatly appreciated. Ro

Ro, Nice job. If the egg was orangey yellow as in the picture. Do you think that might help a bit. Terry

Thanks Peni for your comment. Yes, I love this site and the more I can convence people to help me the better I will like it. I live with my husband in a RV motorhome and we travel "all the time". I only have you guys to help me with art. No art groups and the like to belong to. So, dont be shy, help me see like you do. I will try anything if I think it will be better. If I mess it up, I will have learned something in the painting so I am willing to try. You might laugh, but I did a painting that had clouds. I did not like the clouds so I took sandpaper and sanded them off. The next clouds I put on were really cool and in the process I learned a new "trick" to make amazing clouds - and they were so easy!!!! The next painting I did was Fading Light where I put to use what I learned on those clouds. Again.......thanks so much for your help.//// Catch you tomorrow or when you have the time Edith. Ro

I can see in the photo that the brilliant light on the bottom right of the sheet is actually reflecting back onto the egg. I actually like your egg better.
When ever any of my people at my art club push me to give them critiqueing. I always tell them keep working on the contrast. More lights and more darks. Deeper shadows and lighter or more definate highlights.Thats what creates your images as they should appear. I think your painting is very nice. I feel that if you make any changes to your painting it should be as edith said. But only small changes would be necessary if at all.
