Nice style! I love the bright spot in the middle, really effective. Lovely artwork.

Love your use of light. This one makes me want to drive around in a small cart for some reason :) I like your style! This painting is fun!

I was dreading a critique on this one Richard! Hey i had fun with it & learnt a few things regarding equal values & pushing myself out of my comfort zones. Still working on another version but i'm looking forward to getting back to some more familiar subject matter.

Cool! Frodo's golf course - haha. Very graphic style. Powerful sense of light. Great to see you using your artists licence so much. If I can pick on one thing it would be the middle hills look a bit flat like cutouts. Need to work from a resource to get that better me thinks. Very tricky making stuff up like this though - always leads to more graphic/symbolic work in my case.

Very nice indeed. I like your use of atmospheric perspective - the mountain peak does look miles away.  The vertical format emphasises the height of the mountains. I'm not totally sure whether the simplified/stylized foreground meadow and stream are congruent, but I like them.

Dirk,

I really like the streak of sun light but I'm not sure the bluff on the right side has been hit with enough light to be consistent with where the light source is, this would help to make it look less of a cloned image also.

There is something about the mist moving too far away from your very far distant falls which doesn't ring real, this seems more the way smoke from a forest fire or a very large smoke stack might appear, but not the mist of a falls. Mist will hang about in the mountains like this,  just don't make it come from the falls. I think when you are conceiving so many new elements it is hard to keep it real. Having said that there is an interesting exotic element to your painting that could be exaggerated.

Dirk,

I wondered where Frodo played golf in New Zealand.  I didn't know that there were enough flat spots with all the mountains.  But plenty of sand for sand traps on the beaches.

Hi Stuart, Cloned lumps alright! Maybe they are the lawn clippings from mowing Frodo's golf course haha.

Dirk,

I like the design of the mountains.  The two bluffs could be made less similar--they look cloned.  Also, the crossing of the wisp of mist and the waterfall look a little too regular.  Overall, interesting pattern.  Maybe warm up the bottom of the mountain a bit.  Nice work.

Hi Otto & Iwan. Yes the design is hard. I think it's a battle to try & show off which is obviously a valley of giants. I'm definately going to give this a totally different approach this week. Rethink the notan for different possibilities & get into some warm colours. From Iwan's observation i think i'm going to have to rename this experiment to "Frodo's golf course" haha.

Hi Stuart it does have a bit of a fantasy feel, the mist was dry brushed. How are you going with the design?
