Dirk, interesting design. Looks to me like a scene from a digital movie, e.g., "Avatar". Your mist is fabulous. Did you do this by scumbling with white paint?

Okay Dirk, one has to do what must be done................  We'll see how we both do on this one.  Kind of b . . ch.

I figured you posted this one as a possible design to show what you've been up to.

I'm not into just finding a good crop of one of the photos and more or less copying on this workshop assignment, though so far I've seen some pretty darned good ones.  I think after Workshop 1, most other artists are taking it up a few notches; I'm certainly shootiing higher.

Here's to both of us creating successful paintings; perhaps we'll talk later. (Insert "clink" of glasses here.)

Thanks Otto for the feedback. I'm still having trouble with this painting too. Everything is oversimplified & the elements are too rigid. I'll be revisiting the whole concept i think.

Dirk,

Love the portrait format (enhances the size relationships).  Good idea on the middle ground lighting (the lighter green swath and highlighting of the middle ground botanicals).  Good atmosphere.

I'm having trouble with the space division: The shape created in the background by the two hill masses to either side of the waterfall echos the shape of the peak (almost like a reflection in water of the peak), and the shapes of the middle ground hill masses echo the sky shapes.

My first efforts on this workshop painting are a bit similar to yours.  I'm having some trouble with the design, so I . I'm going back to square one to make improvements this weekend.

Best,

Otto
