Thanks Colleen - endless rain here (and this is Provence!!!)
Beautifully painted Jon. I love the brushstrokes and the colour. It certainly does look like a great place to be!
Anne - just did it to see what happened - a sort of exercise - the title just means wouldn't we all like to be on vacation just now in a place like that! ?
beautifully done yummy greens ! It does look exactly like clear water with a boat on top. You have also done a great job of making the boat seem solid and safe in contrast to the mystical water. Interesting title for this, does it have a special meaning ?
Yep, you're right Christine (thanks!) - what I seem to be finding out is that, no one doubts the veracity of a photo or notices the weird things in it, but with a painting this is not the case (not my paintings anyway ;D) I've arrived at that point where I'm too enslaved by the subject matter and have to break free and re-compose/adapt it - but I keep forgetting to do it!
In regard to the idea of the boat floating...I have a photo of our skiff just this way. It may seem unnatural to the eye but in very clear water, this is what it looks like. The shadow is showing from the bottom below, and not on the water...Good job!
Yeah, I think I see what you mean Michael - I'll try it!
Thanks, Laura, actually the idea was to try and have the boat floating 'in space' (on the invisible surface of the transparent water), yikes, not working!? darn!
Jon, I feel the boat is little bit above the water. Just extend the shadow little bit to the boat to remove that little yellow line between them would be fix it.
Love all these greens! Lot interesting things in the water and so beautiful done!
Very well done Jon!! ...beautiful color harmony of red and green. Suggestion: The white of the bow and the shadow side of the boat would possibly harmonize better if they were mixed from the red and green ..that would keep it within the color world you created. ....like you did on the transit of the boat. The bow would still look white and the shadow side would look blue, but they would have the colors that surround them.
