stroll in the park wip

after many months I'm getting back to painting..and remembering that one of the best things about it is the way I can forget everything and just think about the paint.
this is an 8x10 in progress - I wass drawn to the high contrast between dark and light - and have "lost" that in the painting - hoping I can find a way to capture it. As you can see in my sketch, I'm considering adding the two (really three if you count the stroller?) figures, with mom the focal point & child looking back the secondary..but now I'm not sure if I should add them. Also think my road is way too cool. I would appreciate comments/critiques/advice..

Severin on July 20, 2016 at 17:34: You can do it .. you're dealing with just 4 values ... vary the color and temperature within each of those 4 value shapes ..but do not vary the value of the shapes. ... think in terms of shape, value, chroma, and temperature ..don't think of painting trees, road, or sky. You will be surprised at how easy this painting will come together.

The figures are not painted .... after Lori transfers the steps to her computer, I will toss this. Anyway, the wipe out method was used to paint this because this painting was Notan and shape driven ... a lot of darks with a few lights.

Comment by Michael J. Severin on July 19, 2016 at 15:12: It's kind of difficult to tell what direction the light is coming from ... but I think you are correct .. so we will go with that. When you wipe out the lights, don't wipe all the way to the white canvas ... leave a hint of the golden color as a stain. The imprimatura that is left after you wipe out the light shapes, represents your middle value lights. When you get to this point .. stop and post.
