11.2"x5.5" watercolor
I liked the colors of a painting in one of my magazines and thought I would try them here, In order to save time, I traced my value study and then copied it backwards. :)

Well I think you did a good job on the background.  It is not exactly realistic but I like the way it feels.  I think you should either redo or finish this painting.  It is a good start.  (But then again, if its that old you may not want to rework it.)

Thanks, Jane.  I know that there aren't many darks.  I forgot to mention that this was my first watercolour.  It was done 5 years ago.  I have a hard time putting darks on a face, but doing these still lifes might just  help that.  Actually, the only thing I had to copy was the girl.  I made up the rest.  I have a tendency to do that like in this workshop, I made up the table and glass dish.

Hi Sharon. Thank you for the compliment.  I love seeing what others are doing.

You painting is charming.  What a cute granddaughter you have.  The composition is good and interesting.  The color palette is good too. But you need to use more darks.  She looks a little faded in relationship to the beach ball.  Are you using a photo as a reference?  If yes, then recheck your values.  You just need to push your darks. Also,  It looks like you didn't finish shading her left arm or the basket in her right hand. Both are a bit flat.  Don't be afraid.  You did a great job with the darks on the beach ball and its shadow.   Maybe try doing a few small studies of her face on scrap paper and really add some deeper shading.  Then go back to this.  I hope this helps.  I think the hardest thing about watercolors is learning to add dark color.  I thinks this will be really wonderful.  The background reads well and I like the way you handled the sand.  Good start!

Very nice and colorful, I must try more watercolors, I painted my grandaughter in watercolor... what do you think, since you do watercolor a lot, I would like an opinion?

Thank you, Timothy.  I often try something different with my watercolors.  This was an attempt at using a grey scale painting as the layout, but I used a color palette I admired from a magazine.

Your vision is amazing because the painting looks incredible from afar

Thank you, Stu, Barbara and Luz.  I nearly always turn to watercolors for sketching and quick studies.
