Thank you Michael, Ruby and Linda for your lovely comments. Michael, you may be interested to know I painted this using the Flemish technique from lessons I found in an International Artist magazine.
beautiful!!
Congratulations Fay!! ...a great painting in the Old Master tradition.
Thank you Jessica, Ann, Ian and Colleen. I must say I was blown away to win an award that had an accompanying significant financial prize!! The judge was a Snr Lecturer and Associate Head of School at Elam School of Fine Arts at the University of Auckland. Her comments on my painting were: "The Old Family Bible by Fay Thomson – a nod to the Vanitas tradition but yet gentle due to size composition and tone."I'm very grateful to have won this award as there are such talented artists whose paintings I admire ahead of my own. Ian, I'm so pleased you were able to go to the Bethlehem College art exhibition this weekend and I look forward to seeing the art there now we're back in Tauranga.
Soft and romantically painted, congratulations !
Congratulations, Fay! The crystal candlestick & lace border are lovely.
