30"x30" acrylic on stretched canvas. This is a large painting that I finished today. I used palette knives and brushes so there is a lot of paint on it! It's an aerial perspective of a dry river in Outback Queensland.

Thanks for your lovely comment Silvana. I hadn't thought of the title being sad, but you are right, it is sad. But you know here in Australia dry rivers and drought are a very common occurrence. In fact we have a very serious drought in many parts of the country right now. Some rivers are actually underground rivers so water is never seen in them unless there is a flood. It's interesting how we here seem to accept it as normal - hence I didn't notice the title. :-)

The painting is wondeful but the title is soooo sad.... but it's perfect for the painting's theme....!!!

Thank you so much Ann and Cristina for your great comments.

Ann, yes it is a desert country that I am trying to express and the colour of the palette matches the colour of the land.  I can't see myself going back into it to change much at this stage.

The feeling of warm arid country is very well expressed by this palette and semi abstract design. I feel that you are going for a concept not reality so don't worry about the atmospheric change of distance.  The feeling of desert is well done !

Thanks Jendrawan. But yes you are right. Queensland does indeed have a sub-tropical climate in the SE where I live, all along the coastline and the north. Out west it's just dry heat but there would still be a heat haze. I'm not too keen on tackling this painting again, but will indeed look at it for a few days to consider.

Colleen, any comment I  made better apply to next painting sessions. Wouldn't want you to spoil a finished one. You are right about Australia, in Queensland you have a climate that might (to me )be considered subtropical at times :-). Hence my comment about the haze, in Victoria  or NSW it'd be different again.

Thank you Jendrawan for your great comment.  I thought that I had 'blued' down the colours in the distance, but maybe not enough.  Given that this is Australia and our colours are very bright, I'm not sure whether I need to adjust it more or not.  In any event, I'll look at it for a few days to consider the matter.  There is always something else that I need to adjust.  Will see what everyone else thinks too.

Certainly a big-sized painting.  Would not have the guts to tackle anything that size :-)  Beautiful palette. On the matter of aerial perspective ( a difficult one considering the high vantage position, I think it would add to that perspective if the hues in the distance were more muted/blueish hazy than the foreground.

Just a personal observation, the painting is striking and wonderful.

Thank you Linda.  Yes, I think it is semi-abstract.
