I was asked to paint this for a friend from her photo - I think it's done, but I'd really appreciate any comments/critiques before I give it to her.

I follow Michael's idea too.

Beautiful ! I agree with Michael the water looks little too blue (just a touch)

Beautiful Jessica!!! ...I love your handling of the figures! ..You have developed a keen awareness of atmospheric perspective and utilize it quite well ..very impressive, my friend.   I think it is the water that is troubling everyone? .the hue of the water is somewhat saturated ...suggest you tone it down.  Also, the edge of the water shape is much to HARD ...soften the edges, and grey down the water ..I think you will be more pleased with that fix?  Look at it this way ...you have softened the edges, colors, and values of everything in your background very nicely ..so continue with that idea with the water shape.

Wow! Pro level! - she should be pleased. I very very much like the idea of a couple seen from behind - stronger and less cloying - I like the contrast between their shirts = great center of interest focalizer!

Jessica, I like it a lot! Specially the couple! What a nice scene! I agree with Stu though... at the left near the water, there is sth strange.Perhaps if you follow with the water upto the left edge of the painting? Are you framing it? Lol!If it weremine i would just cover a bit of that with the frame and do nothing else... :) ! They are just suggestions, and whatever you do or not do I am sure your friend will be very happy!!!

Give to her now and charge her some more money. Lol. Beautiful painting!! The couple really stand out. I love those detailed flowers around them very much. Great job, Jessica!

Really nice job, Jessica. Love the way you made everything soft. The people are right on!  You might want to look at the water. Are there waves in the referance photo?

Stu, thanks very much for taking the time to comment & point this out.  Partly I made the values different on purpose to make a gradation, but maybe it's making it hard to understand the lay of the land!  From the photo, it was a bit hard to figure out where the field ended & how much the rock they are sitting on is on the edge of the hill.  Thanks for your encouragement!

This is lovely Jessica. Something doesn't read quite right on the left hand side of the painting and it looks a little unbalanced; you'll see what I mean if you cover the left with your hand. I think that if you darken the values a bit on the near hill on the left side behind the woman that it will help. If you try it first in Photoshop or just by glazing over the area on your dry painting with some dioxazine violet you can see whether this will help. Nice composition. I'm sure your friend will be delighted. Stu
