Oil painting, Total canvas size for exercises 8" x 10", A gray scale value study of 9 values. These are some of the exercises in Richard Robinson's color course that I am going through. The exercises are to teach to see color as value. The apple was a yellow apple.

All of these are great Ro. I guess I need a "pep talk" too. :-( I'm in a rut, so decided to fix my studio space. ;-)

Dear Roena, Thanks very much for your kind words. And I can see that you encouraged someone else too :-) So I take another viewpoint and refresh :-). I am the kind of person in life and at work who wants to do everything perfect at the first time and can be very impatient with myself. So this is a learning curve of myself as well as painting. Since I started drawing/painting about 2 years ago, I have never stopped for that long. Few days max.
What you describe sounds very familiar... wonder why? :-) I looked at the website you mentioned. Wow. Tons of paintings.
Several times I stood by my table with my brushes and painting stuff on it, thinking (oh, no). Have to at least touch them. :-)
Thank you for being my buddy :-), it helps to get this off of my chest.

Hi Bernadett, Thank you for you comments on my value studies. /// Do you think they are called "seasons" in our life? You are not the first artist who has gone through a season of painting. I have been there too. Rather than let it stress you out, decide that this is YOUR TIME to refresh ideas. http://dailypainters.com/ has a lot of art that you could look at. New art is added daily and you can look at older days too. My next suggestion is to begin to really look at the paintings you like and figure out why you like them. What makes that painting appeal to you. Sketch that idea that you liked in a thumb nail sketch in a note book. After a few of those - capturing the ideas you like - you can begin to get a more solid idea in your mind for a painting. // I want to tell you too, that you art talented! I looked at your gallery again! I promise you this - ALL artist had to start. We don't just automatically paint great, wonderful paintings from the beginning. It is a learning curve of learning what the brushes will do, what the paint will do, how to do brush strokes, and on and on. /// Many times I have a hard time getting started. I usually paint something I have no clue how to paint, so my stomach is in a knot, I have not slept well for worrying about how I am going to paint this thing that I dont know how to paint.......LOL......but, I do sit and start......I may paint a long time before I finally "get into it" and manage to finish the painting. See, you are not alone at all! /// You mentioned "Reminds me to study". Study is good especially if you will do the exercises and not just read the book. I try to do. That would at least get a brush in your hand. LOL. /// Let me know how it is going and what you are doing. I will try to give you another "pep talk" to help you get out of the season. I'll be your buddy and give you encouragement. Hang in there. Ro

Hello Roena! This looks pretty good! Very nice values and lots of them! They give a shape and 3 dimensional look to the objects. Reminds me to study some... I have been a bit out of painting lately. Somehow I lost my incentive or what - probably temporarily but didn't feel I can get the pictures on the canvas I feel I have in my head and it was just too frustrating. I am a bit moping around here. You know when you feel that you are not really talented just trying. Anyway. Will get over it probably but right now my brushes are resting...
