Colleen, I like the glow on the beach and the luminosity of the sea wall ...they relate to each other quite well.  You lost the luminosity in the buildings due to over mixing and muddying your colors.  The dark side of the main boat should actually be made of warm greys.  The power of Richards painting is the strong design and contrast in the foreground ...re visit Richards original and see if you can duplicate.

Nice perspective on the boats. The buildings and beach are in sunshine and the sky looks like an over cast rainy day. You may want to consider putting a little clearing patch of light in the sky.
