Thanks Stuart - I can see what you mean about the lighter background - good point

Julie, very nice composition and color harmony.  A slightly lighter background around your top plum might set it off better, but it could detract from your focal point below it.  Very pleasing painting.  Stu

Julie, I just have to comment again, this is so lovely and soft. The fruit surrounds the vase in love and contentment.

Hi Dee - thanks for your comments I can really see where you are coming from now that you have mentioned the angle of the plums - and yep agree about the amount of white left ... its not enough.  Where I struggle is seeing the picture finished before I start and you can't really rub off the pastel - but it is all practice and putting everything away as a learned lesson.

Excellent job, Julie. It has a calm, elegant simplicity.  Those plums are humming with a rich inner glow and I love how they emerge from/disappear into the shadows. Your pear shines out and its little stalk shadow on the jug is a real treat. I do like the idea of leaving the edges rough and sketchy whilst working up the focal point to a high degree and I wonder if it would've worked even better with more white left blank all around. As it stands I'm wanting to crop it or somehow make it look a little more intentional...just a personal preference. The only other thing I'd change, and its a very minor quibble, would be to turn one or two of the plums to vary their angles more. As for your handling of pastel...I'm in awe!

I like the warmth on the vase from the table.  Looks great!  Plums were a good substitute.

Julie, this is beautiful. The pears, vase and plums. You should be proud of this one. Plums look delicious. This is going to look nice framed. Good job.
