I am trying to get back into painting and have chosen something from my neighborhood - an autumn scene- I love the abstract patterns in the water, the pop of sienna in the focal tree, the diagonals that move the eye through the scene- I am struggling with whether to crop...I think I like the depth in the current view. First, many thanks to Michael for his kind offer to help me achieve my goals with this painting!..and to my friends here who have been so supportive. This is the first painting I'm attempting since losing my husband to a battle with stomach cancer. It's been a difficult time for me and this marks a beginning step in healing my grief. The source photo I'm using is from our vacation at Cape Cod only last July when life seemed so sunny & bright - and this painting is a tribute to that…

I recently finished a portrait commissioned by a groom as a wedding present for his bride..her dad passed away when she was only four years old..the portrait was of her father. It was grueling because of the poor quality of reference photos..obviously, no digital photos..only faded Polaroids and a dis colored wedding album to go by....not to mention the pressure as this was such a sentimental gift!
Many, many attempts scratched and daily prayers to find the way to make this happen…

I started the color layer last night and went back in tonight to continue working on the pearls and ribbon. I'm undecided about what to do with the table color..thinking I may leave it neutral grays..any…

Well I began painting the cliffs & was off to what I thought a good start..I was actually very pleased with how it was going! Then.....well, I kept watching the workshop video & tried to incorporate the information..I wound up with cliffs that looked like California instead of Massachussetts!! I scraped a few times & came up with a sort of hybrid cliff painting!
My beginning...how I wish I could turn the clock back:(
..I wasworried about…

these are the Notans of both with the original photos as well..I'd love to hear any thoughts on how…
